Jacquie McRae (Tainui) lives in Te Arai with her husband and has three adult sons. She has twice been a Pikihuia Awards finalist and had her stories published in Huia’s short story collections. She received a place on the inaugural Te Papa Tupu programme that mentors emerging writers. Her first novel, The Scent of Apples, was the result of this. It won a gold medal in the 2012 Independent Publisher Book Awards (the IPPYs) in New York. It was selected by the International Youth Library in Munich and received a White Ravens label. Her latest short story is published in the anthology, Stories on the Four Winds, Ngā Hau e Whā.
Last year, she received her Master of Creative Writing with first class honours. She is currently working on a draft of the novel that she produced for her master’s degree.
