Chris Baker was a long time sufferer of the debilitating disease multiple sclerosis. His time spent living with Māori in the Far North provided Chris with a cultural experience beyond his cultural origins. It was this colourful mix that gives Kokopu Dreams and Shadow Waters a uniquely New Zealand flavour.
An environmental campaigner, a union delegate, journalist, bush and farm worker, Chris lived in the Kiwi tradition of 'give-it-a-go ambition'.
