Rokohu taku kainga e

by Hannah Rainforth

This book follows the life of a family's twelve year old daughter, Tazmin and her family's schooling, social life, and after school activities, while also covering flora and fauna information of the islands. They are Moriori, Māori and also whakapapa to a number of other places such as Niue and Rarotonga but their strongest affiliation is their Moriori side. It is the third book in the 'Uruao' series. This set of books is designed to give students in Māori medium education the insight into the experiences and worldwide views of people and families living in different countries or places. This has a sense of exploring the world, of going out into it. It comes from the Polynesian tradition of 'Uruuruao' - stories which, when listened to carefully, provided maps out into the world, and particularly into new places. The 'Uruao' series is about making links and connections with other areas, giving the children pathways into the wider world and its peoples. The 'Uruao' series is a educational tool to support the NZ social studies curriculum
