Te Huakore: Te Muna o te Whatu

Kaupapa

E whai atu ana a Te Huakore i ngā pakiwaituhi o Arohanui me Meariki. Kua whānau mai he tamaiti tūrehu, kua tohua hei kāmehameha e āio ai te noho o ngā iwi o Te Wao. Engari ka parekuratia te iwi, hāunga te tamaiti, e tētahi taipo me tana mōkai kaitangata – he whakamate i te tamaiti tāna i whai ai. Ka hipa te wā, kua tipu ake hei tamaiti whāngai nō Pēhi rāua ko Hineamuru, nō Ngāti Kaitipua, ā, ko Taramea tōna ingoa. I tētahi ahiahi pō, ka kitea e Taramea rāua ko tana tuakana a Parekoi tētahi ūnahiroa e taka mai ana ki runga o Matawehi maunga, mea rawa ake ka hē ngā rā o Ngāti Kaitipua, ka mutu o Te Wao hoki. Ka rere anō a Taramea i tōna kāinga, engari ka mōhio tonu ia me pēhea e tau anō ai te mauri o Te Wao. I tōna haerenga ka tūtaki ia ki ētahi tāngata rerekē – ko ētahi he pai, ko ētahi atu kāore e pai.

Fast forward to the future, the tūrehu baby is now, Taramea, a boy of Ngāti Kaitipua and adopted son of Pēhi and Hineamuru. One evening, Taramea and his brother Parekoi see a shooting star heading for Matawehi which leads to a series of frightful events for Ngāti Kaitipua and Te Wao. Taramea is again forced to flee his home, but he now knows what he must do to bring peace and harmony to Te Wao. On his journey he meets very different characters, some good and some not so good.
