Description

Manukura Teaching and Learning Materials support the reo Māori edition of Pōtiki by Patricia Grace. This resource is aimed at Wharekura students at Level 7-8, and for Māori medium settings delivering Level 1-2 immersion programmes.

This resource encourages students to develop critical awareness and knowledge of Āheinga Reo, Puna Reo and Rautaki Reo. The resource covers analysis of plot summaries, themes, characters, language, settings, writing styles, and author's intent. Literacy strategies for reading and comprehending Pōtiki (the novel) are explored using activities integrating ā-Waha, ā-Tā, and ā-Tinana tasks on key aspects of the selected text. There are three units of work that help students prepare for assessment against Te Reo Rangatira achievement standards.
