Administrative Accountant [Permanent, Fulltime, Wellington]
Huia (NZ) Limited is New Zealand’s leading independent publisher of Māori and other indigenous stories. We produce high quality commercial books and cutting edge educational resources. We actively promote the revitalisation of Māori language.
We welcome applications from candidates with proven ability and experience in accounts and a broad understanding of general accounting principles. You will have a keen eye for detail and actively seek and propose solutions to challenges presented. Technical competence in MS and XERO is essential, with knowledge of Ipayroll an advantage. We also have a number of other cloud based systems that we use but training and support will be provided.
We are seeking a committed and experienced candidate who enjoys processing orders, reconciliations, invoices, inventory, preparing statements and tax returns as well as managing debtors and creditors. Attention to detail, accuracy and due diligence in your work will ensure your success in this role. The successful candidate will be required to prepare and present financial reports to the leadership team.

As Office Administrator you will have exceptional customer services skills. Responsible for the front of house, manaakitanga is very important to us and your office hours will be from 8.00am to 5.00pm. The office team is responsible for managing all the administrative tasks efficiently for both internal and external customers. Sound IT skills are essential and experience with database management and accounting procedures is an advantage.
As this is not an entry level position, an experienced receptionist/administrator who is looking for a change in a small but fast paced company would be an ideal candidate for this role. Some Māori language proficiency and comfort working in this environment is essential.

Writers, Illustrators, Photographers & Designers
HUIA Resource Developers work with teachers, subject specialists and language experts to develop quality resources. With over 600 schools in Aotearoa teaching all or some of the curriculum in Māori language, it is essential that the quality of the language and the information in the resources meets the needs of teachers and students.
We are particularly interested in increasing the number of people writing and illustrating educational resources in Māori language. These include materials in the areas of:
- Te reo Māori – reading and literacy
- Putaio – Science
- Hangarau – Technology
- Tikanga-a-iwi – Social Studies.
