HUIA has two divisions – the Commercial Books division, which publishes fiction and non-fiction retail books, and Huia Education, which produces a wide range of quality resources in Māori language for Māori medium schools, from early childhood to secondary level.

Huia (NZ) Limited is New Zealand’s leading independent publisher of Māori and other indigenous stories. We produce high quality commercial books and cutting edge educational resources. We actively promote the revitalisation of Māori language.

The sales team support the promotion, marketing and sales of all HUIA publications. The Sales Executive is responsible for increasing direct sales of all Huia books.

Proven ability in direct sales, strong customer services skills, attention to detail and initiative are the key attributes we seek for this position. The successful applicant will have technical competence in website adminstration and practical experience maintaining a CRM database.

This position is a part-time (25 hours per week) contract position.

Sales & Marketing Administrator - Applications now closed

Part-time 25 hours per week
Wellington based

The sales team support the promotion, marketing and sales of all HUIA publications. The Sales Administrator is responsible for processing all sales, stock management and updating website content.

Strong customer services skills, attention to detail and initiative are the key attributes we seek for this position. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in sales administration and accounts processing. Sound technical experience in website and CRM software is highly desirable.

This position is permanent part-time (25 hours per week). For a highly skilled applicant there is an opportunity to support the team with marketing services and project co-ordination.

Project Manager - Applications now closed

Kei te rapu mātou i te tangata tiro whakamua, ka taea hoki te whakaputa whakaaro auaha.

We seek project managers who will champion high quality resources for a wide range of media requirements.We want people who can contribute to our vision in publishing with fresh innovative ideas. 

As Project Manager you will work with our resource developers, sponsors, contractors and commercial book team to deliver various products and services.  This role involves guiding and supporting teams to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest standard.

This role is for 25 hours per week.

HUIA Education

HUIA Resource Developers work with teachers, subject specialists and language experts to develop quality resources. With over 600 schools in Aotearoa teaching all or some of the curriculum in Māori language, it is essential that the quality of the language and the information in the resources meets the needs of teachers and students. Books

We are particularly interested in increasing the number of people writing and illustrating educational resources in Māori language. These include materials in the areas of:

  • te reo Māori – reading and literacy
  • putaio – science
  • hangarau – technology
  • tikanga-a-iwi – social studies.
