HUIA has two divisions – the Commercial Books division, which publishes fiction and non-fiction retail books, and Huia Services, which produce a wide range of quality educational resources including resources in Māori language for Māori medium schools, from early childhood to secondary level.

Design Executive [Permanent, Fulltime, Wellington]
With the rapid development of multi-media solutions in the publishing industry we are looking for an experienced, technology savvy Design Executive to be part of our production team. As Design Executive you will be required to provide design services and technical advice, prepare files for production and work closely with external suppliers to ensure product objectives are achieved. Huia is an award winning company, including in-house book design, therefore the successful candidate will have a record of achievement and/or potential that enables this expectation to be met. All candidates must submit a recent portfolio of work as part of their application and if shortlisted will also be required to complete an original work based on a provided brief.

Resource Developer [Permanent, Fulltime, Wellington]
Creativity, innovation, pedagogical knowledge and proven practitioner experience are essential to this role. You will be a member of a team that conceptualises and champions educational resources across multiple platforms within both the Māori and English Medium sectors. Because Māori medium resources are a key area of responsibility you will have a high level of Māori language proficiency. Huia produces educational resources by ensuring effective relationships with a range of external providers are both developed and maintained. The ability to critique and provide constructive feedback to our providers is a key element to the success of our resources. For those candidates who are shortlisted there will be an assessment activity to be completed as part of the recruitment process. This will be discussed with candidates at the time of shortlisting.

Writers, Illustrators, Photographers & Designers
HUIA Resource Developers work with teachers, subject specialists and language experts to develop quality resources. With over 600 schools in Aotearoa teaching all or some of the curriculum in Māori language, it is essential that the quality of the language and the information in the resources meets the needs of teachers and students.
We are particularly interested in increasing the number of people writing and illustrating educational resources in Māori language. These include materials in the areas of:
- Te reo Māori – reading and literacy
- Putaio – Science
- Hangarau – Technology
- Tikanga-a-iwi – Social Studies.
